Upgrading to energy-efficient HVAC equipment can save you a lot of money over years of reduced energy bills. However, it can also cost a lot to purchase and install. How do you afford the cost of a new HVAC system, so you can start saving money? It helps to take advantage of some of these HVAC rebates and savings, specific to the New Jersey area.
- SAVEGREEN Project — The SAVEGREEN Project is sponsored by New Jersey Natural Gas, to promote the use of gas over electrical, oil, and other forms of energy that are less clean and efficient. To that effect, they have a number of HVAC rebates and incentives available, through July 2017. In particular, if you upgrade your furnace or boiler to a WARMAdvantage qualified system and have a free home energy analysis from New Jersey Natural Gas, you can receive a $500 rebate.
- Home Performance with Energy Star Program — The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities offers rebates on a certain portion of the cost of your HVAC system, as well as 0% financing. The more energy your system saves, the greater the rebate. If it saves 5 percent or more, you can get a rebate of half the cost up to $2,000. If it saves 25% or more, your rebate is half the cost up to $4,000. The HVAC contractor can also receive a $500 incentive after installation.
- Residential New Construction Program — If you’re having a new home built, this program offers incentives to implement energy-saving measures wherever possible, such as Energy Star HVAC equipment, a geothermal heat pump, and duct and air sealing. Depending on your score on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) index, you could receive a rebate of up to $24,250.
There are plenty of other HVAC rebates available for a variety of different systems. To find and take advantage of them, visit Energy.gov/savings, or talk to your local utility company or HVAC contractor.
